Effective ⟨date of publication⟩ · covers www.koenji.cam and the KOENJI app for iPhone

The short version. KOENJI is a camera. Your photographs are yours. The app collects no analytics, shows no ads, contains no third-party SDKs, requires no account, and sends none of your data to us. This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from anyone else. The only thing we ever hold about you is your email address, and only if you give it to us for the newsletter.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served by statichost.eu (c/o Knackeriet, Sankt Paulsgatan 25, Stockholm, Sweden), whose servers, network and DNS run on European infrastructure. To deliver a page, a web server necessarily receives your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser's user agent. Our host keeps access logs for at most 7 days and states that it stores no personal data in them. We do not use them to identify anyone and do not combine them with other data. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The host processes this on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).

No cookies, no analytics, no third parties

The site sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. It has no analytics, no tracking pixels, no embedded videos, maps or social buttons. The typeface is served from this domain, not from a font service. Viewing this site sends no request to anyone but our host.

Newsletter

If you enter your email address and press NOTIFY ME, we use it to send you news about KOENJI, including when it launches. Nothing else, and it is never sold or shared for anyone else's purposes.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time with effect for the future.

the app

What the app processes, and where it stays

Photographs and RAW negatives. Photos you capture are processed on your device and stored in two places you control: the app's private container (previews, RAW negatives, rendered images and the roll index) and your Apple Photos library, if you grant Photos access. Nothing is ever uploaded to us — there is no "us" to upload to.

Location (optional). If — and only if — you grant location access ("While Using"), KOENJI tags each frame with an approximate location (about 100 m) and asks Apple's geocoding service to turn the coordinates into a place name for the roll. This is the one moment coordinates leave your device, to Apple, under Apple's privacy policy. Decline or revoke the permission and the app simply doesn't tag; everything else works identically.

Purchases. Payments are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details. The app keeps a small local record of what you've unlocked, so purchases work offline. Purchase history and receipts live with Apple.

Settings. Your preferences (selected film, dial positions, one-time onboarding flags) are stored locally, in the app's own storage.

What the app does not do

Camera and Photos permissions

The camera permission exists to take pictures; no video or audio is recorded or transmitted. Photos access is used to save your pictures and, if you choose, to show them in the roll. Both are asked for only when needed and can be revoked in iOS Settings at any time.

Your data, your control

Legal basis: processing happens on your device to provide the product you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); optional location tagging rests on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), revocable in Settings.

your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and to withdraw consent at any time. For anything the app holds, everything is already on your device and under your direct control. For the newsletter, write to support@awayfrom.earth. You may also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular the one where you live or, where we are based, the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).

children

KOENJI is not directed at children and processes no personal data of its own accord; the App Store age rating applies.

changes

If this policy changes, the updated version is published at this address with a new effective date.
